Goughnour Engineering, PC is a consulting structural engineering firm located in Herndon, Virginia.  The firm was founded by Steven D. Goughnour, P.E. in 1990.  In the Fourteen years since the founding of the firm, Goughnour Engineering has completed over 3900 projects including office buildings, shopping centers and retail stores including both new and renovation projects.  We have also provided design services for temporary and permanent structures such as retaining walls, building supports, rigging and foundations.  Goughnour Engineering has expertise in repair techniques for concrete, steel, masonry and soils and foundations.  Our staff has experience in the design of a wide variety of structures for varied uses. Goughnour Engineering has provided Structural Engineering services to a variety of clients including Architects, Contractors, Insurance Companies and Property Managers.

Goughnour Engineering, P.C. focuses on three main areas of service;

  • Working with architects and developers in the design of new commercial, retail and residential structures.

  • Working with building owners, architects and contractors in the evaluation of existing structures and providing consultation and design for rehabilitation and renovation of existing commercial, retail and residential structures.

  • Working with building owners, architects and contractors by providing construction consulting.  This includes addressing field conditions and problems, repair and remediation details, temporary structures, and retaining structures.

The majority of our projects are located within the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.  However, through the use of the internet and modern communication technology, Goughnour Engineering, P.C. has been able to successfully serve clients in Alabamba, Pennsylvania and New York.  We have also provided engineering services on projects in Georgia, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and the Bahamas.

Steven D. Goughnour, P.E.

Mr. Goughnour is the principal of Goughnour Engineering, P.C., a firm he founded in 1990.  Mr. Goughnour has over 20 years of experience as an engineer and inspector, completing projects in the fields of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Quality Control.  From this experience Mr. Goughnour brings a unique perspective to the task of solving problems.  The list of projects he has completed include: design and inspection of a 140,000 square foot pre-stressed concrete garage, load testing 48 inch diameter steel piles in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia and inspecting 1,000 foot tall broadcast towers.

Prior to founding Goughnour Engineering, Mr. Goughnour worked for Meyer Consulting Engineers and Law Engineering as a Structural Engineer and Construction Materials Engineer.

Mr. Goughnour was graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1982.  He has conducted post graduate study in Structural Engineering at the George Washington University.  Mr. Goughnour is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the International Concrete Repair Institute, and is currently a member of the steering commitee of the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University.

Mr. Goughnour is registered as a professional engineer in the following states; Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.


 

Lori M. Levine, P.E.

Mrs. Levine was graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering in 1999.  Mrs. Levine has been with Goughnour Engineering, since July 2000.  Prior to joining Goughnour Engineering, P.C., Mrs. Levine was employed by Richard Weingardt Consultants, Inc., Denver, Colorado where she assisted in the design and structural development of commercial and residential projects.  Mrs. Levine is responsible for design and management of commercial and residential projects and is experienced in the design of structures using various materials including; structural steel, reinforced concrete, timber, lightgage and masonry.

Mrs. Levine's most recent projects include the structural design of a 22,000 square foot private education facility in Chantilly, Virginia and the structural design of a 40,000 square foot private residence.  Both projects involved the use of structural steel and reinforced concrete walls and elevated slabs.

Mrs. Levine is a registered professional engineer in Virginia and Maryland.
